Deciding

Most Popular Taxi Journeys

The directory is for finding a route. These notes are for choosing between them.

01

Jeddah Airport to Makkah

Approx. 100 km · Usually 1 to 1.5 hours

The most common first journey for Umrah travellers, because Makkah has no commercial airport. It is short, so the real variable is the airport itself: how long you take to clear immigration and collect bags.

Jeddah Airport to Makkah taxi
02

Makkah to Madinah

Approx. 450 km · About 4.5 to 5 hours

The longest regular journey. Choose it when you want to go between the holy cities in one vehicle, and decide first whether you prefer a day or a night departure.

Makkah to Madinah taxi
03

Jeddah to Madinah

Approx. 420 km · About 4 to 4.5 hours

For travellers who start from a Jeddah hotel rather than the airport. Rest the night before if you can; it is a four-hour drive.

Jeddah to Madinah taxi
04

Madinah to Makkah

Approx. 450 km · About 4.5 to 5 hours, plus any planned stops

The route where a miqat stop is most often requested. Give the checkout time and say whether the stop is wanted, so the pickup can allow for it.

Madinah to Makkah taxi
05

Makkah to Jeddah Airport

Approx. 100 km · Usually 1 to 1.5 hours

The one to plan backwards from your flight. Start with the airline's check-in rule, then add the drive and the hotel exit.

Makkah to Jeddah Airport taxi
06

Makkah to Taif

Approx. 90 km · About 1.5 hours

A change of scene rather than a pilgrimage leg: cooler air, parks and markets. Day trips work well if the return pickup is agreed before you go.

Makkah to Taif taxi
Umrah

Popular Routes for Umrah Travelers

These are the journey patterns we are asked for most. Plan yours around your own itinerary, your flights and any travel requirements that apply to you.

We keep to the transport side. For rituals and rules, follow your tour operator or scholar. For the whole trip, see Umrah transportation.

Longer trips

How Travelers Combine These Routes

Many trips are not one transfer but a chain of them. These are examples, not fixed packages: you can request several private transfers as one wider itinerary, and we plan each leg around the one before it.

Distances

How Far Are Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah & Taif?

Distances and journey times are approximate and can vary depending on traffic, time of day, exact pickup and drop-off locations, road conditions and travel periods.

Realistic planning

Why Your Actual Journey May Take Longer

The times on this page are typical road times. Most of the difference between a typical journey and your journey comes from things other than the road itself.

  • Traffic

The roads between the cities fill on Thursday evenings, Fridays and in busy seasons.

  • Hotel-area congestion

Streets near the Haram and the Prophet's Mosque slow right down around prayers.

  • Airport procedures

Immigration and baggage collection can take far longer than the drive that follows.

  • Luggage loading

Large groups and heavy bags add minutes at both ends.

  • Checkpoints

There are checkpoints on the roads into Makkah, and queues vary by day.

  • Road conditions

Mountain roads around Taif are slower in fog or rain.

  • Prayer and rest stops

On long routes a stop is part of the journey, and it adds time.

  • Season

Ramadan, Hajj and school holidays all change how long a road takes.

  • Exact pickup point

A pin in the north of Jeddah and one in the south are very different starts.

  • Flight timing

When the trip ends at an airport, the flight, not the road, sets the real deadline.

By distance

Choosing the Right Route for Your Journey

Short journeys

The road is the easy part. The minutes are lost leaving a hotel area or finding the right entrance, so be exact about where you start.

  • Pickup timing
  • City traffic at both ends
  • Hotel access near the mosques
  • Flight connections when an airport is involved

Medium journeys

Long enough that the vehicle and the departure time start to matter. Decide them early, and agree where you will stop.

  • Travel time
  • Luggage
  • Departure planning
  • Comfort

Long journeys

A day's travel in its own right. Plan the stops, size the vehicle for the bags, and do not schedule anything critical close to arrival.

  • Vehicle comfort
  • Luggage
  • Rest and prayer stops
  • Leaving enough time
  • Family and group needs

Traveling With Family or a Group?

Choose the vehicle from four things together: how many people, how many bags, whether there are children, and how long the road is. A short hop is easy in almost any car. A four-hour road with several suitcases needs room and comfort.

Ask about a child seat before the day, and count every bag, including hand luggage. Our fleet page shows the vehicle classes, and the homepage vehicle selector gives a quick suggestion. Larger groups can be planned as more than one vehicle.

Why Some Travelers Choose Private Transport

  • Direct pickup and direct drop-off.
  • No other passengers to coordinate with.
  • Luggage stays with your group.
  • Flexible departure timing.
  • Easier with children and older relatives.
  • Easier for itineraries that cross several cities.

It is a different way of travelling, not a better one for every trip. Choose what suits your group.

If Your Journey Ends at an Airport

Do not plan using only the road-time estimate. Allow additional time for the hotel departure, city traffic, luggage loading, arrival at the airport and your airline's check-in and security requirements.

Airline rules differ, so we do not give one fixed buffer. Tell us your flight and we help you work back to a pickup time. See Makkah to Jeddah Airport or Madinah to Jeddah.

Time of year

Seasonal Factors That Can Affect Your Journey

Ramadan
Travel demand and traffic can increase, especially around busy periods, so allow more time and book early.
Hajj season
Travel restrictions, checkpoints and traffic conditions can change. Follow official guidance and your operator's instructions.
Summer
Heat makes long road journeys more tiring. Carry water, and tell us if anyone finds the heat hard.
Winter
Mountain areas around Taif can be cooler, with fog or reduced visibility, especially early and late in the day.
Itineraries

Planning Several Taxi Journeys Together

For example: Day 1, Jeddah Airport to Makkah. Later, Makkah to Madinah. The final leg, Madinah to Jeddah. Each one is its own booking, planned with the others in mind.

  1. 1List every leg of the trip, in order.
  2. 2Check the approximate time for each leg.
  3. 3Add a realistic buffer, more on the long roads.
  4. 4Think about hotel check-in and checkout times.
  5. 5Work back from any flight departure.
  6. 6Share passengers and luggage for every leg.
  7. 7Confirm the vehicle and the pickup point for each leg.

Don't See Your Route?

The routes above are the journeys we are asked for most. You can still ask about other destinations, smaller towns, custom stops or a multi-stop itinerary, and we confirm whether it can be arranged before anything is agreed. See also intercity transfers and Ziyarat tours.

FAQ

Taxi Route FAQs

How long is the drive from Makkah to Madinah?

Roughly 450 km, which usually takes about four and a half to five hours by road before stops. The actual time depends on traffic, the time of day and how many stops you make for prayer, food or rest. See Makkah to Madinah for how to plan the day.

How far is Jeddah Airport from Makkah?

Roughly 100 km, usually one to one and a half hours. Traffic and the exact hotel can add time, and so can the Umrah and Hajj seasons. See Jeddah Airport to Makkah.

Are the distances and journey times exact?

No. They are approximate, written to help you plan, not live navigation estimates. Traffic, the time of day, road conditions, the season and your exact pickup and drop-off points all change the real journey.

Can I book a return trip?

Yes. Tell us both directions and both dates, or the time you would like to be collected for the way back, and we plan the two journeys together. A return pickup agreed in advance is easier to arrange than an open-ended one.

Can I book a route that is not listed?

You can ask. The routes here are the most requested, not the only ones. Contact us with your pickup and destination and we say whether it can be arranged, and with which vehicle.

Can I book airport-to-hotel transfers?

Yes, from Jeddah, Madinah and Taif airports to hotels in the cities we serve. Send your flight number and hotel name. The airports page explains each airport.

Can I combine multiple routes?

Yes. A trip such as Jeddah Airport to Makkah, then Makkah to Madinah, then Madinah to Jeddah is just three bookings made together. Give us the dates for each leg and we check that the timings between them make sense.

How should I choose a vehicle?

By passengers, luggage and the length of the journey together. A short city hop is easy in a small car, while a four-hour road with several suitcases needs more room. See the fleet or tell us your numbers.

Do journey times include stops?

The times shown are typical road time. Planned stops for prayer, food, rest or a miqat add to them, which is why the Madinah to Makkah times say 'plus planned stops'. Tell us what stops you want when you book.

How early should I leave for an airport?

Earlier than the road estimate alone suggests. Start from your airline's check-in and security requirements, then add the drive, the hotel exit and a margin for traffic. Airline rules differ, so we do not give one fixed buffer.

Need a Route Not Listed?

Tell us where you're travelling from, where you're going, your travel date, passenger count and luggage details. We'll confirm whether the journey can be arranged and provide the appropriate vehicle and price.
