Jeddah to Madinah is the direct route for people based in Jeddah or ending a stay on the coast: residents visiting the Prophet's Mosque, families on holiday and business travellers. It does not go through Makkah, which makes it a different journey from the pilgrim routes on this site. The drive is about 420 km.
Door to door from a Jeddah address
We pick you up where you are staying, whether that is a hotel on the Corniche, a flat in the north or a family home, and drive to your Madinah hotel. There is no station or terminal to reach with your bags first. Give us exact addresses at both ends and a pin for the Jeddah pickup.
How long the day is
Plan on about four to four and a half hours of driving, plus stops. Leaving early avoids the middle of the day, and a morning departure gets you to Madinah in time for the afternoon prayers. If you want to arrive for a particular prayer, tell us and we will work back from it.
Send your pickup, destination, date and passengers and we will confirm the vehicle and price.
Arriving in Madinah
Rooms in hotels near Al-Masjid an-Nabawi are often not ready until the afternoon, and roads around the mosque are restricted, so the car may stop short of the hotel door. Send the hotel name and your check-in time before you leave Jeddah. If you arrive early, many visitors go to Ziyarat or to the mosque first and check in later. For getting around once you are there, see Madinah taxi service.
Families and groups
One vehicle keeps a family together and carries their luggage in the same place. A Premium SUV takes five passengers and four bags and a Luxury Van takes eight passengers and six bags. For larger parties we can plan more vehicles that leave together. See the fleet.
Business and day trips
Some travellers go to Madinah for a meeting and return the same day. That is possible, but the driving time is long, so plan the return before you set off. For repeated trips or several guests, see business transportation.
Choosing a Jeddah starting point
Many people begin this trip at a Jeddah hotel after landing the previous day, which is a good idea: it lets you rest before a long drive. If you are coming straight from the airport, the page for Jeddah Airport to Madinah covers flight timing. This page is for travellers collecting from a hotel or address in the city.
Decide on the departure time based on the group. A seven o'clock start gets you to Madinah well before afternoon prayers, while a mid-morning start is gentler on a family with children but means arriving later in the day.
Keeping children and older passengers comfortable
Four hours is a long time for children, and for an older relative it can be a tiring day. Break the journey in a way that suits them: one proper stop rather than three short ones, a meal at the stop, a few minutes of walking. Tell us beforehand if anyone gets car sick, needs to take medicine on a schedule or needs help getting in and out of the vehicle, and we will plan accordingly.
Stopping for fuel, food and prayer
There are service stations along the highway, though how many are open and how busy they are varies by hour. Rather than waiting until someone is desperate, agree on the first stop at the start of the journey. Many drivers prefer to stop around the middle of the route. A prayer stop at a mosque attached to a service station is simple and adds little time, but queues at the washrooms can be long on holidays.
What to carry in the cabin
Keep water, snacks for children, any medicines, chargers and the hotel booking within reach, rather than packed in the boot. Pilgrims in ihram should keep spare clothing nearby if they plan to change at Madinah. A small bag with these essentials makes the journey far more comfortable for everyone.
Travelling during Ramadan
Fasting travellers face a long, dry road in the heat, and many choose to leave after Fajr or to time the drive so that Maghrib falls at a service station with a proper place to break the fast. Tell us which you prefer, and mention it if some in the group are fasting and others are not. A short stop for dates and water at sunset is easy to plan if it is agreed before the car leaves Jeddah.
