Taif is only about 90 km from Makkah but a different world once you arrive: cooler, greener and set among mountains. Many people make the trip as a day out or a short stay, and a private driver makes the climb far easier.
The mountain road
The journey takes about an hour and a half, and much of it climbs through the Sarawat mountains on steep, winding roads. Having an experienced driver at the wheel is a comfort for families and older passengers who would rather enjoy the view.
A change of climate
Taif sits much higher than Makkah, so temperatures are noticeably cooler, particularly in summer. That is a large part of its appeal for residents of Makkah and Jeddah looking for a break.
